Pye Corner Audio has put out a new remix of Euphoria, the opening track on his album More Songs About The Sun, and this time the reworking comes from Maps, aka electronic producer James Chapman. It is out now on all digital platforms and is the second in a series of remixes from the album.
The original features guitar from Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis. The press release says the Maps version turns the hazy original into an electro-gaze roller coaster, and that when the arpeggiated synths drop at around the three minute mark it becomes "a solid, certified banger". There is a visualiser too, made by Studio Sparks and based on Marc Jones's artwork.
More Songs About The Sun came out in June to coincide with the summer solstice, and is a sequel of sorts to 2022's Let's Emerge! The reviews quoted in the release are glowing. AllMusic called it "the missing link between Spiritualized, Suicide and Boards Of Canada", and Electronic Sound said it sits close to the atmosphere Andrew Weatherall coaxed from One Dove in the early 1990s.
That Weatherall and One Dove comparison is a big part of why I'm backing this one. An album that sits alongside a record like that, with Andy Bell's guitar on the opener and a remixer who has his own track record in electronic music, tells me the whole project has been put together with care, and I'm happy to recommend it to anyone who likes their electronics psychedelic.
The remix coincides with a tour of the UK and Ireland, which kicked off in Dublin on 4 November. The remaining dates are:
- 19 November – Salford – The White Hotel
- 20 November – Glasgow – Audio
- 21 November – Newcastle – The Common Room
- 27 November – London – Vespers
- 28 November – Bristol – The Croft
