Big Stir Records is joining Power Pop Hall Of Famers The Flashcubes in honouring founding member Paul Armstrong, who passed away earlier this year. A new 7-inch vinyl and digital single is out on 13 November, and it's cleared for airplay and review now.
The A-side is Got No Mind, Armstrong's signature song, in a fresh version with the surviving Flashcubes joined on lead vocals by their friend, the legendary voice actor Tom Kenny – yes, the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants. The B-side is the vinyl debut of Reminisce, the band's 2025 indie single and, as the label puts it, Paul's final and fitting contribution to the band's songbook.
A band getting a well-known friend in to sing the song its late founder is best known for, rather than just putting out a quiet memorial, says a lot about how much Armstrong meant to them. I'm glad to back this release, and putting his last recorded song on the flip side of a record is the right way to do it.
There's more if you want to dig in. The indie rock all-star tribute album Make Something Happen! features the three newest indie hit songs from the band plus covers of their classics.
Big Stir Records say the band are available for interviews and features, and can be contacted at bigstirrecords@gmail.com.
