Sauvageoness has released Into the Deep Woods, a live session album on vinyl that comes paired with a film of the recording session. We covered the first single, RD E|A, a few weeks back, and now the whole thing is out.
The idea was a "concert to go" for her audience. The 10 tracks were captured live at her studio, Bunker Paradise in Renens, and the release describes it as a raw, live sound, distinct from the polished feel of a studio album. The film is described as a kind of ritualistic reverie.
The setlist reflects the shows she has played over the past year, mixing tracks from last May's album A Maze Deep In with unreleased material. It's available in digital, vinyl and film, plus DIY CD and DVD editions, which the release calls a truly unique and "unidentified" musical object.
An album that comes with its own film and DIY CD and DVD editions, and that you can't get on any streaming platform, is a very deliberate way to put music out. I'm glad to back Sauvageoness for doing it on her own terms, and the live-in-her-own-studio idea makes it feel like an invitation rather than a product.
You can get it at live shows, on Bandcamp (exclusively, it's not on any other streaming service), at Urgence Disk Records in Geneva, and very soon at a selection of independent record stores.
There's some press too. Loud Women reviewed the album on 31 October and Idioteq premiered the live session on 27 October with an article.
