Drew Davies – Running, a Glasgow alt-rocker’s new single about being stuck in a loop

Tuesday 27 October 2026

Glasgow artist Drew Davies releases a new single, Running, on 30 October through Right Track Records / Universal Music. It is taken from his forthcoming album.

Davies has had support from BBC DJs including Mickey Bradley (BBC Ulster), Gary Crowley (BBC London), Bruce Dickinson, Jericho Keys (BBC Introducing) and the late Janice Long (BBC Wales), plus press backing from CLASH, Louder Than War and Earmilk. The press release says he wears his influences on his sleeve, with Bowie, Mott and Bolan ever present but with a 2026 feel. The genre is filed as art rock and alternative rock, with glam rock and hard rock as secondary tags.

He says Running is about moments that make you feel stuck in a loop, whether that is chasing a dream to the detriment of other areas of your life or repeating the same mistakes. In his words, "it's me holding up a mirror to myself – a reminder that if you keep running in the same direction, you might end up back where you started." The chorus lyric runs "I'm only running just to catch up with you".

A songwriter who says the song is a mirror held up to himself, and who has the Bowie, Mott and Bolan lineage on show, is an easy artist for me to back on here. The honesty about getting caught in a loop is the reason I want more people to find it.

Davies wrote and produced the track and sings, plays synthesiser and acoustic guitar. Robert Jones plays lead guitar, Mark McCubbin bass and Stewart Robison drums. Jonathan Hucks mixed it and Graeme Lynch mastered it.
