Cari Cari – We Can’t Not, the lead single from their first film soundtrack, scored for a ski film narrated by Sean Bean

Wednesday 28 October 2026

Austrian duo Cari Cari release We Can't Not on 30 October on perla nera. It is the lead single from the soundtrack to a new feature-length ski film, their first original score, and the press release says it feels like a new album.

The story starts with The Ultimate Run. Legs Of Steel, a collective of freeskiers turned production company, licensed the band's song Mapache for that film, which went on to become one of the most-watched ski films of all time and won a Sports Emmy. The band and the film-makers became friends, and three years later, with Cari Cari just finishing a release cycle and a 102-show world tour, Legs Of Steel asked them to score their next full-length feature.

The film was shot over two years, everywhere from Alaska to New Zealand, features some of the best skiers on the planet and is narrated by Sean Bean. The band wrote 45 minutes of original music for it. It will screen at festivals around the world with premiere events, before airing on the Red Bull Snow YouTube channel.

Both members grew up in Austria and, in their words, practically skied before they could walk, spending their teenage years dreaming of joining the freeride and slopestyle circus. That never happened, so scoring a ski film is a lovely twist, and a band that turns a licensed song into a friendship and then a full soundtrack is one I'm pleased to back. You don't need to love skiing for that to appeal.

The press release describes cinematic soundscapes, gritty rock 'n' roll and Stephanie Widmer's haunting vocals, with analog synthesizers, violins and a new-found edge. We Can't Not was written by Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Koeck.
