Midnight Swim Club – How Was I To Know, a London four-piece’s new single ahead of their debut EP

Thursday 29 October 2026

Midnight Swim Club are a four-piece indie band from London who only started writing songs at the beginning of 2026. Their new single, How Was I To Know, is out on streaming services on 6 November on Right Track Records, through Universal Music, with radio getting it a day earlier on 5 November. The band say the name comes from the idea that life's best stories happen after dark.

The song was a last-minute addition to their debut EP. The band felt the record needed a more upbeat, pop-influenced track, so they wrote one. It tells the story of being completely oblivious to someone having feelings for you and missing every obvious sign along the way. The press note sums it up as indie guitars, big melodies and a story everyone can relate to. The writing credits go to Steven Anderson-Howard, Phil McHugh, Ryan Fears and Jack Bowen, published through Sentric.

A band that is under a year old and already selling out a headline show is the sort of story I like to get behind, and a track written specifically because the EP needed a lift tells me they know what they are doing. I'm happy to back Midnight Swim Club and How Was I To Know.

That first headline show was at The Water Rats in London, and it sold out. They are now stepping up to a bigger one at the Barfly on 21 November, to celebrate the release of the EP. The press material suggests fans of Royal Otis, The 1975, Inhaler and Circa Waves, and describes them as writing for hopeless romantics and late-night thinkers.
