Glasgow four-piece Spyres have a new single called Game Over, out now on First Run Records. It's their first release in over a year and the track is full of video game references.

The band say it's about escaping everyday life and entering a world where you can completely reinvent yourself. In their words it captures "the addictive feeling of chasing the next big win, pushing yourself to the next level and refusing to give up until you become the best". It was produced by Chris Marshall (Gerry Cinnamon, Dead Pony, Declan Welsh and the Decadent West) and Johnny Madden (Baby Strange, The Clause).

Game Over made its live debut at Tenement Trail Festival in Glasgow in October, where Spyres played the midnight set at McChuill's and there was a queue down the street. It was also played on BBC's Sport Scene on Saturday 24 October, in the goals round-up.

The live record is a big part of the story. Spyres have supported The Jesus And Mary Chain, Nothing But Thieves and The Snuts, and their headline show at King Tuts in 2021 sold out in under 24 hours. They have since sold out London's Old Blue Last, Glasgow's Stereo and Edinburgh's Mash House, played TRNSMT, Live At Leeds and Isle Of Wight Festival, and played New Colossus in New York and SXSW in Austin in 2024.

A band that sells out King Tuts in a day, tours Germany in six cities and then gets their new single onto the Saturday football highlights is one I'm glad to back.

They have also released the EP Karaoke Sellouts, which includes Money and Sleep Forever, and the single Fun in 2025. In March 2026 they headlined six cities in Germany.
