London artist Lilla Shy releases her new single Serial Feeler on 30 October, and the press notes describe it as "dreamy" and "ever-so-slightly Halloween-tinged", which is nicely timed.
The track was produced by Ed Harcourt, and it is built around a trait Lilla calls both a curse and an addiction – feeling things far too deeply, even when it hurts. The lyrical hook says it all: "My skin is paper thin and pain is my own dealer. I'm a sucker for it, I'm a serial feeler."
The single follows her recent release Pink House, and recent songs have picked up support from BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing and Radio X, plus Spotify's New Music Friday and Novità Pop playlists. Quotes in the release include "So, so good" from Patrick Kielty on BBC 5Live and "Excellent stuff" from John Kennedy at Radio X.
A song that began as a bedroom recording and ended up with a producer like Ed Harcourt behind it is exactly the sort of story I like to back, and the fact that Lilla has gone from there to London's Palladium and Glastonbury makes it an easy one to point people towards. Serial Feeler is the one to start with if you haven't heard her yet.
On 24 October she was Radio X's guest on John Kennedy's X-Posure show for a live session, performing a stripped-back version of the new single. The BBC Introducing Live performance is also online at bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0k5z718.
Serial Feeler is the latest taste of her forthcoming album The Blood We Share. It will be released with a headline show at The Grace in London on Friday 19 March, promoted by DHP, followed by a UK album tour in April. Dates are still to be announced.
