Scottish country-pop singer Cammy Barnes has a new single out, You & Me, released on 23 October. It teases his debut album, which will be launched at two headline nights at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. The first show, a 13,500 capacity room, sold out so quickly that a second date was added.

It's been a busy year for him. He went from King Tut's in January to two sold-out Barrowlands shows in September, he has just been named Artist of the Year at the Nordoff and Robbins Scottish Music Awards, and the press release puts him at over 100 million streams and 1.6 million followers.

You & Me was written with his friend Davey Horne, and it came together in about 30 minutes. The subject is something both of them have been through – not knowing where home is, and living from town to town with loved ones. The release describes it as a mix of driving bassline, singalong hooks, classic Americana guitar and honky tonk stabs, and Cammy himself says it's "a winner to play live" with a big catchy chorus.

A song that began with two mates working out where home is, and got written in half an hour, is a good reason for me to put this one on the site. Country pop built for stadiums isn't what normally turns up here, but the story behind it and the way Cammy has built his audience make it a release I'm happy to back.

He says the album will be "full of storytelling and raw country pop and feel-good sounds", and You & Me is a good indication of its broad sound and direction.

You & Me is out now.
