The Spongetones are back with another new single – Starting To Feel, which is out on 16 October on Big Stir Records. It's the 5th in a run of standalone singles they've been putting out through 2026, and the label says it's all leading up to a new album, their first of their fifth decade as a band (yes, FIFTH).
The twist this time is who's singing. Drummer Eric Willhelm takes the lead vocal for the first time, on a ballad about renewal and rebirth (a drummer on lead vocals – always a brave move!). So not a power pop stomper this time, but Big Stir promise all the hooks and harmonies are still there, and say it stretches the classic Spongetones sound a bit too.
There’s a real sense of purpose behind this track, with every element pulling in the same direction without ever sounding overly polished. It’s confident, immediate and full of the kind of character that makes an artist worth keeping an eye on.
There's more to come before the album, as the band are carrying on with the singles series for the rest of the year.
