Two Tonne Machete are a feminist alt-punk four-piece from North Wales, and their new single Box is out Friday 23 October alongside their debut EP, on streaming and vinyl.
Box is about watching someone you love lose their mental health, and the strain of trying to stay supportive while holding onto your own at the same time. The band say it marks a move away from more traditional punk songwriting – it opens on soft piano before the second half turns into a crashing mix of anguished vocals, powerful drums and soaring synths.
There's real craft in the way it builds too – each section brings in something different without ever breaking the flow of the song, and that attention to structure gives it a really polished feel.
The band sign off their email as Em, T, Mark and Paul, and close with "Diolch o galon" (thank you from the heart, in Welsh) – a nice touch given where they're from.
Box and the debut EP are both out on 23 October across all streaming platforms and on vinyl.
