Power of Dreams are back with a new single, Somebody Somewhere, which is out on Friday 6 November – and it's the first one since 2010 to feature all 4 original members. Craig Walker sent it over last week and it's sounding really good.
If you were into Irish indie in the early 90s you'll know them. The Dublin band was formed by brothers Craig and Keith Walker with their childhood friends Mick Lennox and Ian Olney, and they signed to Polydor and toured Europe, North America and Japan. Their 1990 debut Immigrants, Emigrants and Me is still rated as one of the great Irish debut albums. Great bit of trivia in the press release too – when they played the Sin-é café in New York during the CMJ festival in 1993, their support act was a then-unknown Jeff Buckley!
This year has been a proper reunion. In July they played Forest Fest, their first Irish show with the original line-up since 2010, and Craig says it was "an honour" to have Morty McCarthy from the Sultans of Ping tell them they still had so much to offer.
The single was self-produced and recorded between Dublin, Florida and Arizona, and the producer is Jessica Corcoran – who worked on Ned's Atomic Dustbin's God Fodder, Shed Seven, The Wonder Stuff and New Model Army, and on Power of Dreams' own third album Positivity, over 30 years ago. Craig says he tried to channel the bloke who sang old favourites like 100 Ways to Kill a Love and Stay "without it becoming too cloying or naff", and that the song looks back on a lost relationship with "no bitterness".
They're back in their London studio in November working on their 6th album, due in 2027. Meanwhile there's a short tour:

- Fri 6 Nov – Dublin, Opium

- Thu 12 Nov – London, O2 Academy Islington
